Colleagues can share databases with the network program. Network database access is configured for either read-write or read-only access. In the read-only mode, multiple users can access the same database for searching, sorting, printing and creating bibliographies. Editing functions (including entering, editing and deleting records) are restricted to a single user accessing the database in read-write mode. The network program is licensed based on either the number of workstations or on concurrent accesses to the program. Databases can be stored on either a network or workstation drive. |

| Workstation Licence: |
|
The ProCite Workstation Licence provides each individual licensed user with access to ProCite at all times. The number of users is determined by the number of workstations which will access the program. Each 5-User Workstation Licence provides 5 individual users with access to ProCite at all times. Advantages: There are two main advantages of the workstation licence:
Licences can also be re-assigned to other users, for example, if one member of a workgroup moves to another department and no longer needs to use ProCite. Potential disadvantages: a workstation licence must be purchased for each individual workstation where ProCite is to be made available. If you need to make ProCite available to a large number of workstations on the network, then a concurrent licence may better suit your needs. |

| Concurrent Network Licence: |
|
The Concurrent Licence allows a limited number of simultaneous users to access ProCite via a network server. The minimum number of concurrent users is five and the suggested ratio of users to concurrent licences is 4:1 ie, one concurrent licence to support four users. (This ratio is simply intended as a guideline and may vary based on how actively the pool of users accesses the program.) Concurrent use is governed by the user's network administrator and their local network. Concurrent access must be controlled by the network operating system (some networks can specify concurrent access limits) or by metering software programs (eg, KeyServ, SiteMeter). Advantages: The main advantage of the concurrent use licence is it offers an economical way to support a broad pool of occasional ProCite users. Potential disadvantages: There are two potential disadvantages with a concurrent licence. One is that users can only access ProCite while connected to the network. The other is that if all concurrent accesses are active, then other users will be denied access to the program. |

| Network Installation Details: |
|
The multi-user version of ProCite is licenced for a particular number of users. You can install ProCite on a shared network for simultaneous use (concurrent licence), or you can install ProCite locally for each licensed user (workstation licence). When installing ProCite onto the network, the program should first be installed on the network server. The installation includes program files, workforms, journal title lists, output styles, configuration files and sample databases. Then, each user must install system files and wordprocessor files on each local machine. Full details are provided in the ProCite Users Guide. Access Rights: The network program also allows users to open databases in various modes when selecting Open Database from the File Menu. Under access rights, users may select from these options: Read-Write Share, Read-Only Share or Read-Write Exclusive. (Note, however, that a user's access options are first governed by the access rights set-up by the network administrator.) |
