Web Publisher as a Service

To install Web Publisher as a service.

1. Install Reference Manager 12, which installs the basic Web Publisher files.

2. From the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel

If you are in Classic View, navigate to Administrative Tools and then Services.

If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then Administrative Tools. Double click the Services shortcut in Administrative Tools.

3. Scroll down to RMWPService, and double click on it.

4. Click the "Log On" tab.

 

If your account is a network login:

1. Click the radio button next to "This account."

2. In the box provided, type in your domain, then a backslash, then your UserID.

3. Enter a password, and then confirm the password. (The existing lines of bullets are not valid entries.)

4. Click on the "General" tab.

5. If the "Service status" is not set to "Started," click "Start now."

6. Click OK to save your changes and dismiss the properties window.

 

If your account is local on this machine:

1. Click the radio button next to "This account."

2. Click Browse.

3. Click Advanced.

4. Click Find Now.

5. Select the appropriate user from the displayed list and click OK.

6. Click OK to dismiss the "Select User" dialog.

7. Enter a password, and then confirm the password. (The existing lines of bullets are not valid entries.)

8. Click on the "General" tab.

9. If the "Service status" is not set to "Started," click "Start now."

10. Click OK to save your changes and dismiss the properties window.

11. On your computer desktop, right click on the My Computer icon to display a context-sensitive menu, and select Properties.

12. Click on the Advanced tab.

13. Click Environment Variables.

14. Under System Variables, scroll to find the "Path" variable and double click on it.

15. In the Variable Value text box, scroll to the far right of the box, type a semicolon, and then type or paste the following path (multiple path entries in this text box must be separated by a semicolon):

C:\Program Files\Reference Manager 12\WebPublisher\thirdparty\Perl\bin

16. Click OK to close each of the three dialog boxes.

 

To determine whether Web Publisher is running as a service:

You may run into a situation where you are not sure whether Web Publisher is running in default mode or as a service.

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to display the Windows Task Manager.

2. Click on the Processes tab.

3. Scroll down the list of Processes:

RMWP_Apache = Web Publisher is running in default mode

RMWP_Apache_Admin = Web Publisher is running as a service

Note: it is not unusual to see more than one copy of the service.

 

To uninstall Web Publisher service:

1. In Reference Manager, go to the Tools menu and choose Web Publisher.

2. On the Configure tab, select Disable Web Publisher and click OK.

3. Uninstall Reference Manager.

4. From the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel

If you are in Classic View, navigate to Administrative Tools and then Services.

If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then Administrative Tools. Double click the Services shortcut in Administrative Tools.

5. Scroll down to RMWPService, and double click on it.

6. Click the "Log On" tab and disable the service.
